2011 Scholarship winner
M.O.M. is very proud to announce Krista Falk as the 2011 recipient of the Kathleen Fisher Memorial Scholarship. Krista be attending UW-EC for the first semester of her freshman year, then will be transferring to Carroll University to major in Biology with an emphasis on Animal Behavior. Her hope is to one day work with marine mammals at SeaWorld in Orlando, FL.
Throughout Krista’s four years of high school she underwent numerous surgeries and hospitalizations. Even though she ended up missing nearly two years of her high school experience she still maintained a positive attitude and a G.P.A. of 3.54. Krista learned to not take things for granted and make the most of not only her education, but life in general because one never knows what tomorrow will bring.
Krista’s scholarship essay which follows truly demonstrates what a dynamic, motivated and giving person she is… “Many people desire to achieve wealth, marriage, or kids when they get older, but I have a different desire, for it is not a physical thing I desire but more of an impact. It is my sole desire in life to become the best person I can be as well as leaving a positive impact on the world. I have learned through experience that you never know what tomorrow will bring which is why I strive to live each day to the fullest and make as big of an impact as I can on those round me. Currently I’ve been taking steps to achieve my goal by helping out in my community more through church, the humane society, and tutoring those in need, as well as raising awareness for cancer and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Currently, my big project I am working on is to raise awareness for cancer by donating one’s hair. This event that I organized called “Bald for a Cause” is an event in which people can pledge to donate their hair to Locks-of-Love over the summer. Now I must admit that my impact right now is probably rather minuscule, but I hope that someday to instill hope, strength, and joy in all those around me, as well as giving back to my community and creating a better world by offering up my time, services and money. No matter where life takes me I am confident in my abilities to give back and impact those around me.”
M.O.M. wishes Krista the best in her college experience and looks forward to sharing updates on her successes!
